Saved by my parents

This cartoon from 2003 sums up why my nieces and nephews can expect a book, a ball or some type of boring educational toy from me on their birthday. This is from the guy who was hooked on Pac-Man in 1982.  My parents hid the game cartridge and told me Pac-Man went on vacation.   That was one of the best things they ever did for me.

  1. I do not agree with you. A book is not just a boring educational toy! I love reading books! So hey, if you are planning on getting a book for me on my B-day or something go right ahead.

  2. I think you’ve missed the point, Pixie. I was being facetious about educational toys being boring. I give books and other non-digital toys because I don’t want to encourage kids with their video game habit. As a former video game addict myself, I know it’s a hard habit to kick, especially today when digital stimuli are everywhere. My parents had to intervene by taking my games away and forcing me outside where I had to use my imagination and my body to entertain myself. I also had to learn to interact with other people. If they had let me stay inside playing video games I might never have discovered the liberating properties of a bicycle.
